Beth Carlisle

I’m Beth Carlisle, a dedicated primary classroom teacher with 17 years of experience who now offers personalised 1-2-1 English and Mathematics tuition for children aged 5 to 13. After qualifying as a teacher in 1995, I spent 17 years teaching all subjects across primary age groups at St. Peter’s Primary School in Plymouth, where I took on senior leadership responsibilities and worked as an in-house tutor for two other schools. I also served as an Assessment Leader across five schools, giving me deep insight into how children learn and where they might struggle. In 2014, I made the rewarding shift to one-to-one tutoring, driven by a desire to help children who feel ‘lost’ in the classroom environment. My approach focuses on building trust and rapport, tailoring lessons to each child’s unique needs—whether they require extra support in literacy, confidence in numeracy, or help with exam preparation. I hold a BA (Hons) in Education with Psychology from Cardiff University, which has shaped my understanding of how children develop academically and emotionally. What sets my tutoring apart is my commitment to going beyond the curriculum: I don’t just teach subjects; I instil confidence, patience, and a love for learning. Many of my students have additional needs, and I take pride in adapting my methods to suit their learning styles, whether that means breaking down complex concepts or using creative resources. I’ve seen first-hand how targeted support can transform a child’s progress and self-belief, and I’m passionate about helping more young learners reach their full potential. Based in Plymouth, I offer flexible, personalised tuition that fits around each family’s schedule, whether that’s weekly lessons or intensive short-term support. My goal is to make learning enjoyable while ensuring measurable progress, so every child leaves their session feeling both challenged and encouraged.
