James Green

I’m James Green, an Oxford-educated Classics and English tutor with over five years of experience helping students achieve their academic goals. Having graduated with a First Class BA in Classics and English from Exeter College, Oxford, and now reading for a Distinction-awarded MSt in Classical Languages & Literature at Trinity College, I bring a deep passion for languages and literature to my teaching. Before university, I attained top grades across the board, including A* A-Levels in English Literature, Latin, Spanish, and Mathematics, alongside full marks in an EPQ on Darwinism in Thomas Hardy and an HPQ on Parliamentary Sovereignty. My GCSE results were equally strong, reflecting my commitment to academic excellence. My teaching approach is rooted in making meaningful connections between subjects—whether that’s pairing Latin and Spanish grammar at GCSE level or exploring the intersections between English literature and classical texts. I’ve worked as a course tutor at the UK’s leading Latin summer school (JACT ‘Latin Camp’) and for two classics education charities, where I’ve seen firsthand how tailored tuition can transform exam outcomes and university prospects. Currently teaching English as a Second Language abroad with a CELTA (Pass A), I continue to offer private online tuition in English, Latin, and Spanish up to A-Level and for university admissions. I particularly enjoy working with students who want to explore subjects beyond rigid curriculum boundaries, as I believe this fosters deeper intellectual growth. Based in Oxford, I tutor students across the UK and internationally, helping them build confidence and achieve their full potential in languages and literature.
