Browse all tutorsPersonal statement tutoring helps Year 12 and 13 students craft compelling UCAS personal statements for university applications. Tutors assist with structure, content selection, subject-specific framing and the overall narrative — helping students present their genuine interests, skills and motivations in the way admissions teams respond to most.
The UCAS personal statement is 4,000 characters long and must convince admissions tutors at up to five universities simultaneously — balancing genuine enthusiasm, academic insight and the right level of maturity is a skill most students have no prior experience with.
Most students begin drafting in June or July of Year 12, aiming to have a near-final version by October of Year 13 (before the October 15 deadline for medicine, dentistry, vet science and Oxbridge). Working with a tutor from July onwards gives time for multiple drafts and feedback cycles without the pressure of the October deadlines. For medicine applicants, the statement often needs to be ready before UCAT preparation in summer.
